The Sami-Sabinsa Group hosted a ceremony on December 5, 2025, to celebrate the opening of a new herbal products and ingredients manufacturing unit at the Pharma SEZ Industrial Area in Hassan, Karnataka, India. The Hassan Unit-2 is the second facility the company has built in this area, following the establishment in 2020 of NSF GMP certified Hassan Unit–1, which produces Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). Hassan Unit-2 is the company’s ninth manufacturing facility.

Dr. Anju Majeed, Sami-Sabinsa Executive Group Chairperson, other members of senior management and employees were joined by Shri Dr. H. D. Ranganath, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Kunigal, to mark the occasion.

Dr. Anju Majeed said, “The new production facility in Hassan will strengthen our ability to serve customers worldwide with both patented and off-patent herbal products. It is also expected to significantly enhance the Sami-Sabinsa Group’s export performance and contribute to a strong increase in company revenue.”

The world-class herbal products and ingredients manufacturing facility is spread across 15 acres. This high-quality, environmentally conscious, Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) facility has been designed with a focus on user comfort, energy efficiency, responsible water management, and biodiversity enhancement. Fully compliant with cGMP standards and regulatory requirements, the facility is expected to generate employment for approximately 250 people in and around Hassan. Additionally, 30–40% of the land has been reserved for future expansion.

Hassan Unit-2, which represents a planned investment of USD $15 Million, is part of the Sami-Sabinsa Group’s strategy to expand its existing ingredient portfolio while focusing on innovative new products. The location of the Hassan facilities provides convenient access to ports on the east and west coasts of India.

Environmental and Sustainability Features

The facility maintains a green belt covering more than 30% of the total area, reflecting its commitment to environmental stewardship.

The combined facility is supported by comprehensive utilities, including vacuum systems, cooling and chilling compressors, steam boilers, and generators providing 100% power backup. Both units operate independent, world-class Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs). Effluents are segregated into dedicated collection tanks for LTDS/HTDS, which are processed through a Multiple Effect Evaporator (MEE) system to achieve Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD). No effluent is released outside the facility. Separate rainwater channels and harvesting pits have been implemented for effective water management.
